Conservatory Roof Repairs in Essex: Slipped Glass Secured Just in Time

When a conservatory roof starts to move, it can quickly become more than a leak or draught problem. On this Essex repair, several glazed roof panels had slipped significantly and one section was close to moving out of its correct support position.
The homeowner had originally expected the installation guarantee to provide protection. However, the company that installed the conservatory had ceased trading, leaving the customer without the company-backed guarantee route they thought they had.
A serious fault caught just in time
The rear of the conservatory incorporated a box gutter where the roof met the house. Fortunately, this helped arrest the movement of the affected glass. Without that support, the consequences could have been far more serious. Slipped conservatory roof glass should never be ignored, particularly where visible gaps, displaced cappings or movement at the eaves can be seen.
Our inspection found that the glazed panels needed to be carefully repositioned and secured. The photographs below show the condition around the roof bars, cappings and internal junctions before and during the remedial work.
How we repaired and secured the roof
The aim was to stabilise the existing conservatory roof safely and restore the glass to its correct position without causing unnecessary disruption. The repair included:
Carefully pushing the slipped glass panels back into their correct positions.
Fitting and securing stop ends to help prevent the glass from travelling down again.
Checking and securing the external end clips and roof-bar components.
Refitting and sealing the ridge caps where they had become displaced.
Repositioning the foam and sealing components beneath the ridge area to reduce unwanted air and water ingress.
Inspecting the wider roof and ring-beam area for visible movement and age-related deterioration.
Some of the older glazing-bar gaskets showed deterioration consistent with the age of the conservatory. We explained this clearly to the homeowner so the roof can be monitored during future periods of driving rain and severe weather. Honest advice is important: a targeted repair can secure an existing roof, but older components may still require further maintenance as they continue to age.
